CREATION OF AN EFFICIENT AND ELEGANT PREFABRICATION FACILITY FOR MANUFACTURING AND DISTRIBUTION.

iWolff Atelier was engaged to design and deliver this facility on a Design and Construct basis to house the new headquarters for Hickory Industries in Victoria. This facility includes the two Hickory prefabrication businesses being Sync and Hickory Building Systems (HBS).

iWolff Atelier was also responsible for the master planning for the entire site of this industrial park in Laverton North with Hickory being located on the largest lot within the park being Lot A.

The building has been designed to Hickory’s specific requirements for the production of prefabricated bathrooms by Sync and prefabricated structural systems by HBS. It also includes their new Administration Building for the management of the facility (the fitout of this component of the building was designed by Elenberg Fraser).

Given the prefabricated nature of the facility the concept has been designed to express the use of prefabricated techniques including the use of a controlled grid for the precast warehouse as well as expressive steelwork throughout the building. The grid is also a strong feature of the Administration Building.

Creative engineering was required to achieve the specific design constraints of the function of the building including numerous mobile cranes and clearances of the structure. The traffic engineering design also played a significant role in achieving turning and clearances to enable the functionality of the facility.

The result is a sophisticated and elegant facility for the prefabrication of building elements.
