DESIGNED AS AN ELEGANT AND CONTROLLED RESPONSE FOR A STEEL DISTRIBUTION FACILITY.
iWolff Atelier was engaged to design and deliver this facility on a Design and Construct basis to house the new headquarters for SteelForce in Victoria.
The building has been designed to SteelForce’s specific requirements for the storage, cutting and distribution of steelwork. It also includes their new Administration Building for the management of the company.
Given the nature of the use the concept has been to express steelwork throughout the facility including exposing the columns and frames in the Administration Building.
Steelforce has been designed on a well-controlled grid which is expressed in all elements of the building including the glazed Administration Building, the well-controlled rhythm of the precast and the elegant and expressive steel structure of the warehouse.
Creative engineering was required to achieve the tight design constraints of the function of the building including numerous 10 tonne mobile cranes and clearances of the structure. The traffic engineering design also played a significant role in achieving turning and clearances to enable the functionality of the facility.
The result is an elegant gridded building with a beautifully crafted steel structure. Well detailed expressive canopies provide protection along the two facades and add to the expressive architecture.
