SENSITIVE ADAPTIVE REUSE OF A HERIATGE RESIDENCE TO CREATE AN INSPIRING EARLY LEARNING ENVIRONMENT.
iWolff Atelier is responsible for the design, documentation and delivery of this unique Early Learning Centre. This centre will accommodate 98 places for children ranging from 0 to 6 years of age.
The Childcare Centre consists of the heritage adaptation and conversion of a heritage listed 2 storey residence. The residence is considered to be of significant heritage value in the municipality hence requiring a sensitive response to adapting it to the new use together with the modern addition to the rear of the existing dwelling.
Planning requires careful consideration of spaces within the existing envelope together with the modern 2 storey addition thus complimenting the existing heritage features of the dwelling.
A playful response to the exiting interior spaces will create a unique teaching and learning environment to inspire the children and capture their imaginations on each and every visit.
Restoration of the heritage garden will create a majestic forecourt to the centre bringing the residence back to its former glory within the luscious landscape. Extensive external play areas support the internal classrooms providing the children with wonderful open areas for play and education.
The centre will service the local as well as the wider community. The solution will be an identifiable landmark in Werribee.
